“What’s Trending” is a great way for our ABC7 News viewers to sample some of the most viral news and videos of the day, said the San Francisco ABC O&O’s president and general manager William Burton.  “KGO-TV is glad to bring this interesting new segment to our 4pm news viewers.

“KGO-TV consistently embodies the innovative spirit of the Bay Area in their approach to programming and leadership in news,” said Lazar.  “We are excited to take a step in bringing What’s Trending to a new level in multi-platform entertainment. KGO-TV is a great partner in that evolution.”

The ABC Owned Television Stations Group announced this week that Watkowski, the news director at KFSN in Fresno, has been promoted to vice president of news at KGO in San Francisco.  Watkowski served as assistant news director at KGO earlier in her career.

“Watkowski’s superb credentials as a journalist and news executive for more than two decades–and, in particular, her proven track record in San Francisco and latest accomplishments in Fresno–made her the natural choice for this senior post at KGO,” station president and general manager William Burton said, announcing the promotion.  “All of us here at ABC 7 are proud to welcome Tracey back to the Bay Area.” continued…

In his new role, Keeshan will be responsible for “ensuring that the high standards for news gathering and reporting set by NBC News are applied consistently across all 10 NBC-owned stations,” according to an NBC statement on his hire.

The move reunites him with Valari Staab, who was the general manager of KGO before taking over as president of the NBC O&Os earlier this year.

Keeshan announced his departure to the KGO newsroom on Tuesday and left immediately thereafter, station sources say. KGO general manager William Burton has not responded to TVSpy’s request for comment; an ABC spokesperson declined to speak on the matter, saying the company does not discuss internal personnel issues with the press. continued…

Four local stations announced partnerships today with Waze, a social traffic and navigation app that will give reporters real-time information on road conditions.

Waze allows a community of 9 million drivers to report traffic via Smartphones. Traffic reporters at the four ABC stations — KGO in San Francisco, KABC in Los Angeles, WFAA in Dallas and WPVI in Philadelphia — will broadcast the data, giving viewers a “driver’s eye view of current and potential slowdowns.” continued…

Burton, an almost-lifer at ABC, has been with the company since the Cap Cities days as a promotions writer/producer at WPVI in Philadelphia.

Since 2006, Burton has led ABC’s O&O digital media initiatives. Before that, from 1994-2006, Burton was VP of Programming and Director of Creative Services at KABC in Los Angeles. He got his start in TV at KUSA in Denver as a promotions writer/producer.

Burton takes over for Valari Dobson Staab who left ABC for NBC in April where she oversees NBC’s O&Os as president of NBC Local Media group.
