“I don’t want this to be seen as me fleeing Milwaukee,” Rosoff told Dudek. “I would have been happy to stay. Since the beginning, (WITI) put me on out front . . . in so many big stories. I would have had no fears about staying. It would have been the safe move.”

Rosoff starts today at CBS-affiliated KIRO, where he will be a general assignment reporter.

“Yes morning shows are lighter fare but for this woman to be dancing at the scene of a fire where three children died is an example of a perfect embarrassment,” another reader said. “Where did common sense and good judgement go?”

The promo, which is of WITI‘s morning anchors and reporters doing the “Dougie,” includes one clip of reporter Angelica Duria dancing at the scene of her live shot Friday. The problem? She was reporting from the scene of a fire that resulted in the death of three children. “We have been working to make parts of FOX 6 Wake Up more fun and spontaneous — especially near the end of the show as we transition into ‘Real Milwaukee.’  We have tried to involve all of the crew and staff,” WITI general manager Chuck Steinmetz said in a statement. “While I personally received multiple positive comments from viewers about the segment — one person specifically thanking us for getting their day off to a fun start before going to work — we never intended to offend anyone. If we did we certainly apologize.”

Beginning Wednesday, Lada will join the network’s anchor-reporter team and will contribute to Comcast SportsNet Chicago’s online and on-air coverage. She replaces Nicole Darin, who joined Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.

Lada has been a sports reporter and anchor at WITI, the Fox affiliate in Milwaukee, since 2006.

During this morning’s toss from the studio to the weather deck where meteorologist Rob Haswell was waiting to deliver his December forecast, the on-screen graphic read,”Thanksgiving Forecast.”   Adding to the confusion, the locators wrongly identified where the anchors were at the time.  Nicole Koglin and Kim Murphy, who were in the studio, were tagged as being on the “Weather Deck” while Haswell was tagged as being in the “Fox 6 Studio.”

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was clued in to the mistake by a viewer who, according to the Journal Sentinel, blames cutbacks in station personnel while revealing their human side as well,

…one reader believes that cutbacks in newsrooms in all departments are responsible for such “misteaks,” as he called them.

Last week a graphic on Milwaukee’s NBC affiliate WTMJ asked viewers if they needed more “fun” control instead of gun control.

Milwaukee Fox affiliate WITI and Chicago NBC O&O WMAQ were the big winners at the 54th annual Chicago Midwest Emmy Awards Sunday night.

WITI won 12 awards, including for outstanding achievement in for news gathering in the hard news single feature and hard news series categories. The station was also honored for outstanding achievement for a news specialty report in the human interest category.

WMAQ won the night’s top honor, the Emmy for outstanding news gathering in the spot news category, for its coverage of the NATO conference in Chicago last year. The station also won an Emmy for outstanding achievement for news gathering in the soft news category. WMAQ led the Chicago stations with nine Emmys; Tribune-owned CW affiliate WGN won eight.

NBC affiliate WTMJ averaged an 11.3 during the debate, ABC affiliate WISN pulled in a 10.3, FOX affiliate WITI saw a 6.9 and CBS affiliate WDJT drew a 3.7.  A rating point in Milwaukee is equal to 9,100 households.

While the numbers may sound high, The Journal Sentinel offered a sobering comparison, while 293,000 Milwaukee households tuned in to Tuesday night’s debate, 473,000 watched the Green Bay Packers beat the Houston Texans on Sunday night.

“Punch it, Chewie,” added meteorologist Brian Gotter, making a “Star Wars” joke.

The futuristic-looking set so offended one caller that he left a message on my voice mail: “It’s a screaming disaster. It’s as ugly as any modern designer or architect could create.”

WISN and WITI confirmed to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday that some of their employees signed the recall petitions.

WISN and WITI came forward after WTMJ reported during its Tuesday evening newscasts that several of its employees, including one on-air figure, signed the petitions.

“Station management wants you to know they consider this a serious issue,” WTMJ anchor Mike Jacobs told viewers on Tuesday.  “The station is in the process of dealing with it internally.” continued…

Before joining WITI in 2010, LaPorte served as news director at WEAU in Eau Claire, WI.  He also spent several years at Milwaukee NBC-affiliate WTMJ, working as an executive producer and eventually serving for a year as the station’s news director.

“John has many years invested in the news business and the Milwaukee market,” WITI president and general manager Chuck Steinmetz said, in announcing LaPorte’s promotion, “and over the past several weeks I had the opportunity to see just how competitive and compassionate he is about this newsroom and his craft.”

Fillinger, 68, was clearly outside of the yellow police tape, standing next to a group of onlookers, when a Milwaukee police officer began hassling him about filming at the scene.

After being backed down for several yards, Fillinger briefly touched the officer in a defensive motion–a move that sparked the cop to knock Fillinger to the ground and arrest him (video here).  He was charged with resisting and obstructing a police officer. WITI management, along with the NPPA, protested the charges.

WITI reported on the dropped charges during its evening newscasts on Wednesday.

Every morning, I ask my iPhone what the weather will be like today, and it tells me. Why should I watch you on TV?

Rob Haswell: Actually, that’s pretty easy. Siri is probably getting “her” data from an out-of-state source, like AccuWeather out of Pennsylvania or The Weather Channel out of Atlanta. Her ability to forecast on a local level like we do and to know the local terrain like we do is pretty limited. On a day like today, when it’s sunny and 38, she’s probably 100 percent right.
