WJBF Adds Julie Parise to Morning Show

parise_wjbfJulie Parise has joined Augusta ABC affiliate WJBF as a reporter for “Good Morning Augusta.”

The station welcomed her on its facebook page, “We want to welcome Julie Parise as the newest member of the Good Morning Augusta team. Join us in welcoming Julie to the CSRA!”

Parise comes to WJBF from CBSNewYork.com where she had been the features editor.

Archith Seshadri Signs Off From WJBF

After three years at WJBF in Augusta, Archith Seshadri is leaving the station to join WJZY-WMYT in Charlotte.

Seshadri joined WJBF in 2010 as a digital journalist and fill-in anchor. He became the station’s weekend morning anchor in 2012.

“It’s gone by fast, and it certainly is bittersweet. I certainly will miss everybody,” Seshadri said on his last newscast (video above). “Thank you for letting me be part of this community, embracing me. I’m so grateful.”

Man Calls WJBF, Threatens Reporter

wjbf logoA caller to Augusta ABC affiliate WJBF threatened reporter Michael Miller he would be “blasted in the face with a shotgun,” The Augusta Chronicle reports.

Police were notified Tuesday afternoon after the call, according to the Chronicle. The caller subsequently called back and threatened to kill everyone in the studio. According to the Chronicle, Miller told police he had just finished a report about scams on prepaid debit and credit cards. [h/t NewsBlues]

Ashley Bridges to Anchor Weekends at WJBF

Ashley Bridges has been promoted to weekend evening anchor for Augusta, GA, ABC affiliate WJBF.

Before coming to WJBF in August 2012, she was a booker and field producer for ABC’s “20/20″ and “Good Morning America.”

In addition to anchoring the 6:00, 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. weekend shows, Bridges will continue to report and act as South Carolina bureau chief during the week.

Tara Hernandez Says Goodbye to WXMI

WXMI sports anchor Tara Hernandez is signing off from the Grand Rapids Fox affiliate, according to Mlive.com.

Hernandez joined the station in 2008 from WJBF in Augusta. Her last day at WXMI is Wednesday, and she begins next week as communications and marketing manager at Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.

“In this position, I’ve met so many incredible people and covered so many great things,” she told Mlive.com. “But some of my favorite things are the daily, local stories. Telling stories about people you wouldn’t know unless you watched FOX17.”

Reporter Brett Buffington Joins WIS

Brett Buffington has been hired as an investigative reporter at WIS, the NBC affiliate in Columbia, S.C.

Buffington was most recently a reporter and multimedia journalist at WJBF, the ABC Affiliate in Augusta. He was nominated for an Emmy for investigative reporting during his two-year tenure at the station. He has also worked at WJXT, the independent station in Jacksonville, Fla.

Buffington begins at WIS on April 24.

Media General Reorganizes TV Stations Into Two Regional Units

After selling its newspaper assets, Media General has announced a corporate restructuring that elevates James Conschafter and John Cottingham to key leadership roles for the company’s television stations.

The company’s current structure of five geographic regions will be replaced by two geographic regions for its 18 television stations. Conschafter and Cottingham, who have both been named corporate vice presidents, will each oversee one region.

“With our June 25 sale of newspapers, Media General is focusing all of its resources on its broadcast television group,” Media General president and CEO Marshall Morton said in a statement. “We are delighted that our two most experienced broadcast executives will lead our television operations.” Read more

WJBF Launches Weekend Morning Newscast

Augusta ABC-affiliate WJBF debuted a weekend morning newscast on Saturday.

The newscast will be anchored by Archith Seshadri, WJBF’s Columbia County reporter. He will be joined by meteorologist Jason Nappi.

“I’m excited. It’s really fun to start something new,” Seshadri said on Friday. “This is something that we haven’t done.”

The newscast, which airs Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m., is the first local weekend morning news program in the Augusta market.

Video: Weathercaster Receives Awkward On-Air Proposal During WJBF Newscast

Jenna Lee Thomas‘s weather forecast was interrupted Sunday night by a man in a tuxedo. Thomas’s boyfriend Eric surprised her during WJBF‘s evening newscast and slowly got down on one knee (video above).

The station re-aired the surprise on-air proposal during its daytime newscasts on Monday. Eric apparently contacted WJBF anchor Jillian Benfield two weeks ago to begin planning the surprise. [h/t NewsBlues]

Dan Schillinger Joins KWWL As News Director

Dan Schillinger has joined KWWL, the NBC-affiliate in Cedar Rapids, IA, as news director.

Schillinger comes from Augusta ABC-affiliate WJBF, where he was news operations manager and executive producer. Prior to that, he was the news director at KCEN, the NBC-affiliate in Waco, TX, and KEVN, the Fox-affiliate in Rapid City, SD.

“The station has a long history of news leadership in Iowa but it’s not resting on past accomplishments,” Schillinger said in a statement. “I look forward to helping the staff grow and adapt to this changing media environment.” Read more
