In Lansing, WLAJ Will Air WLNS Newscasts

Due to a shared services agreement that began on March 1, morning and evening newscasts on WLNS, the CBS affiliate in Lansing will begin airing on WLAJ, the ABC affiliate, this month.

“It’s a great way to expand our reach and bring our same great news, sports, and weather to viewers across mid-Michigan,” news director Jam Sardar said in a statement. “It’s a win-win for the stations and for the viewers.”

WLAJ has twice started and folded a news operation, according to the Lansing State Journal. Starting tonight, WLNS’ 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts will be simulcast on WLAJ. Later this month, WLAJ will also air WLNS’ morning newscast, which runs from 5 to 7 a.m.

Until the deal closes, Sinclair will operate the stations under a local marketing agreement. In September, Sinclair announced the purchase of Four Points Media, a seven-station, $200 million purchase. Read more
