WPMT Swaps Evening and Morning Anchors

lutz y warner WPMTBeginning September 29, Harrisburg, Pa. FOX affiliate WPMT is swapping morning anchor Heather Warner and evening anchor Amy Lutz.

Lutz will now anchor the morning news alongside Amanda McCall, meteorologist Jeff Jumper and traffic reporter Chris Garrett. Warner will move back to the evenings alongside Evan Forrester, chief meteorologist MaryEllen Pann and sports director Todd Sadowski. She’ll also anchor at 4:00 p.m.

“What we’ve discovered over the years,” news director David Silverstein said in a statement, “is that our viewers love these two no matter what newscast they are on. Amy worked on morning news programs prior to her arrival here at FOX43, so she is more than ready to wake up early! And of course, Heather has a long history in this area, having anchored FOX43 NEWS AT TEN for many years.”

Chris Topf Named VP-GM Of Tribune’s WPMT

Tribune Broadcasting Chris TopfTribune Broadcasting has named Chris Topf vice president and general manager of WPMT, the Fox affiliate in Harrisburg, Pa. It is a move within Tribune for Topf, who was most recently general manager of Toledo NBC affiliate WNWO.

“Chris has a successful history managing a television station and brings a strong background in revenue development in the broadcast television business. He will be a great asset for WPMT and a great addition to Tribune Broadcasting,” Tribune Broadcasting COO Kathy Clements said in a statement.

Before WNWO, Topf was the vice president of sales for Barrington Broadcasting in Illinois, overseeing stations in 13 markets.

WLNE Names Nicole Moye News Director

Nicole Moye has been named news director at WLNE, the ABC affiliate in Providence. Her appointment is effective August 21.

Moye comes from WPMT in Harrisburg, Penn., where she was the assistant news director. She has previously worked at KOLD in Bend, Ore., KCOY-KKFX in Santa Barbara, KRON in San Francisco and KPTV in Portland, Ore.

“Nicole has over 20 years of experience in local broadcast news as a producer and news director.  I am confident that she is the ideal person to continue to build on WLNE’s recent success and bring us to the next level in making this station a competitor in the TV market,” vice president and general manager Chris Tzianabos said in a statement.

Moye replaces Robert Rockstroh, who resigned earlier this summer.

WXIN General Manager Moves to Rival WTHR

Dispatch Broadcast Group has named Larry Delia president and general manager of WTHR-WALV in Indianapolis. Delia comes from rival WXIN, Tribune’s Fox affiliate, where he has been vice president and general manager since 2011.

“Larry is a highly respected broadcaster, with years of experience in skillfully managing high performance television stations,” Dispatch Broadcast Group CEO Michael J. Fiorile said in a statement. “His knowledge of the Indianapolis market is a wonderful asset, and I couldn’t be happier that he will be joining our station in Indianapolis.”

Before joining WXIN, Delia worked as VP-GM of WPMT in Harrisburg and WGNO in New Orleans.

Delia succeeds John Cardenas, who was recently promoted to president-GM of WBNS and vice president of news for Dispatch. More in the full press release after the jump. Read more

Susan Buterbaugh Named Director of Sales at WXIN-WTTV

Susan Buterbaugh is joining WXIN-WTTV, Tribune Broadcasting’s Fox and CW affiliates in Indianapolis, as director of sales.

It is a move within Tribune for Buterbaugh. She comes from WPMT, the Fox affiliate in Harrisburg, Pa., where she has been general manager since 2010.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to join such an outstanding group of broadcasters at Fox59 and Channel 4,” Buterbaugh said in a statement. “The reputation for excellence is well known and I am eager to work with such a dedicated team and to continue to build on its success.”

WPMT Moving Evening News to Earlier Time

Harrisburg, PA, FOX affiliate WPMT is shifting the start time and adding an hour to its evening news line up.

The station said it’s adding a 4:00 and a 5:00 p.m. newscast beginning August 5. The station currently airs one hour of news at 6:00 p.m. Starting September 9, that hour will be filled with back-to-back episodes of “Two and a Half Men.”

“We have always been laser-focused on providing a reason and a viewer benefit when we schedule our newscasts,” said WPMT news director David Silverstein. “From the launch of FOX43 NEWS AT 10:00, we have reached out to meet an audience that wants local news at non-traditional times.”

WPMT Morning News Expands to 4:00 a.m.

WPMT‘s morning news will begin an hour earlier. The Harrisburg, PA, FOX affiliate has announced they are expanding their morning news to five hours by starting at 4:00 a.m beginning Wednesday. The show will now run from 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. weekdays.

News director David Silverstein told TVNewscheck, “Five hours may sound like a long time. But you must keep in mind that everybody has a different schedule in the morning. When you have a five hour spread of local news, as we now do, you’re the only station able to serve Pennsylvanians no matter what time their day starts.”

The morning newscast will feature the same anchor line up, with anchor Courtney Laydon, meteorologist Jeff Jumper and traffic reporter Chris Garrett.

WGNO Names Hank Allen Chief Meteorologist, Hires Jeff Robbins From WPMT

Hank Allen (pictured) has been promoted to chief meteorologist at WGNO, the ABC affiliate in New Orleans. Allen’s new role is effective January 1.

“Hank has been an integral part of our weather team. Hank doesn’t scare viewers with doomsday weather forecasts,” news director Rick Erbach said in a statement. “He’s a straight shooter and he does what it takes to calmly walk viewers through severe weather events.”

Allen, who joined the station in 2007, will continue in his role as the meteorologist for the morning and 11 a.m. newscasts. He replaces Bruce Katz, who left WGNO for rival WVUE last month.

WGNO also announced the hire of meteorologist Jeff Robbins. Robbins moves to New Orleans from Harrisburg, Pa., where he worked at Fox affiliate WPMT. He begins December 2 as the meteorologist for “News with a Twist,” WGNO’s 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts, and the 10 p.m. newscast. Read more

Maryellen Pann Named Chief Meteorologist at WPMT

Maryellen Pann has been promoted to chief meteorologist at WPMT, the Fox affiliate in Harrisburg-Lancaster, Penn.

Pann has worked as a meteorologist at WPMT since 1990, when she began as the station’s weekend weathercaster. She handles the forecasts on the 6, 6:30, 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

Pann received her certificate in meteorology from Mississippi State University. She has also worked at WBFF in Baltimore and WMDT in Salisbury, Md. [TVNewsCheck]

David Silverstein Named News Director at WPMT

David Silverstein has been named news director for WPMT, the Harrisburg FOX affiliate, TVSpy has confirmed.

According to his LinkedIn page, Silverstein comes from the Pentagon Channel.  Previously, he was news director at WMAR in Baltimore and was a member of the South Florida Super Bowl Host Committee for Super Bowl XLIV in Miami.
