Ryan was chief meteorologist at NBC-owned WRC from 1980-2010. He joined Allbritton’s WJLA, where he is the 11 p.m. meteorologist, in 2010.

In an interview with the Post, Ryan said he is planning to continue writing and blogging about the weather, possibly even filling in on WJLA from time to time. He said Allbritton’s recent announcement that it is exploring a sale of its television stations contributed to his decision.

“I made the decision [to retire] before the new owner gets here,” Ryan said.

Glassman has worked at WRC for 13 years, most recently as manager of news, press and programming. He has also worked as coordinating producer of special projects and on the assignment desk.

Snyder has been senior manager of content at WRC since 2008. She has previously worked at CNBC and MSNBC, as well as WUSA, the CBS affiliate in Washington, DC.

Segal, a native of Frederick County, Md., joins WRC from WIVB-WLNO in Buffalo.

“Amelia has a true passion for weather and the background to complement our team,” said chief meteorologist Doug Kammerer said in a statement. “Adding another meteorologist – especially one from our region – will help make our coverage even better.  We are excited for Amelia to join our team.”

Along with Segal’s hire, WRC announced “significant investments” in the station’s weather resources and technology, including a more expansive network of cameras installed throughout the city and a new weather app.

Mark Segraves

Segraves joins the NBC O&O on February 11. He has spent nearly a decade as a reporter at rival WJLA, the ABC affiliate in DC, as well as reporting for WTOP, a local radio station.

Mike Oliveira

Oliveira, the station’s managing editor, joined WPXI seven years ago as an executive producer. He has previously worked at WHDH in Boston and WTVH in Syracuse.

“Mike has been with us since 2005 and has had a dramatic impact on our product and people,” WPXI vice president and general manager Ray Cater said in a statement.

Oliveira replaces Michael Goldrick, who was recently named news director at WRC in Washington, DC.

David Culver said goodbye to WAVY, the NBC affiliate in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, on Sunday (video above). As we told you last month, Culver is joining the Northern Virginia bureau at WRC, the NBC O&O in Washington, DC.

Jason Pugh

Pugh comes from West Palm Beach, where he was a sports anchor and feature reporter at WPTV-WFLX. He also works for ESPN 760 radio, where he hosts three shows and provides play-by-play for games.

Pugh replaces Hakem Dermish, who left WRC for ESPN in April, at the NBC O&O. His first day will be December 10.

WRC has also hired a new reporter, David Culver (left), who will be exclusively assigned to the bureau. Culver joins the station on December 17 after four years at WAVY, the NBC affiliate in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.

Stations in major markets across the East Coast chose to preempt, or partially preempt, network morning shows Monday to remain in extended local coverage of Hurricane Sandy.

In New York City, where the subways and buses have been shut down since Sunday night, the local stations all began live storm coverage at 4amET. NBC O&O WNBC went to “Today” at 7 a.m. and returned to local programming at 7:30 a.m. WCBS aired only the first hour of “CBS This Morning,” and WABC aired “Good Morning America” in its entirety.

Michael Goldrick

Since 2009, Goldrick has been news director at WPXI, the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh. At WRC, he steps into the role that has been vacant since Camille Edwards left for WABC in July.

“Mike is a proven news leader who knows how to be competitive,” WRC general manager Jackie Bradford said in a statement.  “I am very excited that our newsroom and our viewers will benefit from his experience, his creativity and his strategic thinking.”

Glassman said Tracee Wilkins will be the bureau chief in Prince George’s County out of Landover and Julie Carey will be the bureau chief for Northern Virginia out of Reston. “These are folks who will live and work out in those areas,”he said.

Glassman said Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal, which was approved in January of last year, provided him with the investment needed to expand. “Comcast gets local TV and they get the value of it,” he said.

Adam Tuss

Tuss joins the NBC O&O in Washington, DC from WTOP radio, where he has spent the last eight years reporting on transportation issues in the region.

In a statement announcing the hire, WRC general manager Jackie Bradford said Tuss “has distinguished himself in Washington as an enterprising reporter who breaks stories in one of the most important beats in our region.”

“Everyone cares about transportation in this area, and there are so many stories to tell,” Tuss said.  “I am thrilled to pursue this exciting new opportunity with such a respected organization.”

Keith Garvin

Garvin comes from KTVT, the CBS O&O in Dallas, where he was a reporter and fill-in anchor. He previously worked at WRC, the NBC O&O in Washington, DC.

Garvin replaces Iain Page as 4 p.m. anchor. Page is rumored to be “leaving the station soon to pursue other opportunities,” according to McGuff.
