Evening Anchor Jenna Kooi Leaving WRTV

jenna kooiWRTV anchor Jenna Kooi has decided not to return to the station after her maternity leave, the Indianapolis Business Journal reports.

Kooi, who joined the Indianapolis ABC affiliate last year, co-anchored the 7 and 11 p.m. newscasts alongside Todd Connor. News director Terri Cope-Walton told the Indianapolis Business Journal that a replacement for Kooi has yet to be announced.

Before joining WRTV, Kooi worked at another Indianapolis station, Fox affiliate WXIN, as well as at stations in Baltimore, Phoenix and Columbus, Ga.

After 36 Years, Norman Cox to Retire from WRTV

cox_wrtvWRTV has announced the retirement of reporter Norman Cox after 36 years at the Indianapolis ABC affiliate.

“Norman has been a great journalist for central Indiana for decades,” said WRTV news director Terri Cope-Walton in a statement. “His work is second to none, and we are proud to have had him on our staff. Not only will we miss his journalism, but we will also miss his humor, and the special brand of friendship he brought to the newsroom every day.”

“The people of Indiana have benefitted from Norman’s coverage, his thoroughness, his professionalism and his integrity,” said Indana Governor Mike Pence, the seventh Governor Cox has covered. “I respect the way he has done his job, always prepared, tough but fair, a truly objective journalist.”

Cox started at WRTV in 1976 as the Statehouse reporter. His last day will be Friday, November 1.

WRTV Adds Two to ‘Good Morning Indiana’

WRTV, the Indianapolis ABC affiliate, has announced the addition of a multimedia journalist and a traffic reporter to “Good Morning Indiana.”

Katie Heinz (pictured right) joins the station as a multimedia journalist for both “Good Morning Indiana Weekend” and the weekday morning show. Lauren Casey (pictured left) joins WRTV weekday morning anchors Beth Vaughn, Marc Mullins and meteorologists Todd Klaassen and Ashley Brown as traffic reporter on Monday September 16.

“Knowing what is happening right now is a priority for our morning viewers,” says Cope-Walton. “The addition of Lauren and Katie expands our morning coverage. We are pleased they chose to join our team.”

Heinz last worked at WICS in Springfield, IL, while Casey comes from Franklin College.

WRTV Adds Assistant News Director

Jana Soete is joining E.W. Scripps’ Indianapolis ABC affiliate WRTV as assistant news director.

“We are excited to have someone with Jana’s experience and leadership joining our staff,” said news director Terri Cope-Walton in a statement. “Jana is an accomplished and award-winning journalist. She will be a great addition to our News Management Team.”

Soete comes to WRTV from Scripps owned WCPO in Cincinnati where she was managing editor.

Kyle Mounce Joins WRTV From WPSD

Meteorologist Kyle Mounce is joining WRTV in Indianapolis from WPSD in Paducah, Ky.

Mounce, an Indiana native, will be the weekend meteorologist and weekday weather reporter at ABC affiliate WRTV. He has worked at NBC affiliate WPSD since 2008.

“We are happy to welcome Kyle back home to Indiana. He will be contributing to our live weather coverage on TV, on-line at theIndyChannel.com and on our expanding mobile and iPad news and weather apps,” news director Terri Cope-Walton said in a statement.

WRTV Adds Weekend Newscasts and Employees

The Scripps owned Indianapolis ABC affiliate WRTV has announced it will begin producing a weekend morning newscast.

“We are excited for the opportunity to add to our team of journalists,” WRTV news director Terri Cope-Walton said in a statement. “This is a major investment in talent and resources for RTV6. Users on all our platforms will benefit.”

WRTV will add eight employees to produce the new shows that begin airing September 7. The station hasn’t said who will anchor the weekend shows. Read more

Terri Cope-Walton Named ND at WRTV

Terri Cope-Walton has been promoted to news director at WRTV, the ABC affiliate in Indianapolis.

Cope-Walton has worked at WRTV since 1998, most recently as assistant news director. She stepped into the role of interim news director in November 2012 after Kevin Finch parted ways with the station.

“After a nationwide search, I found the most qualified, natural leader for RTV6 News right here inside our station,” WRTV VP-GM Larry Blackerby said in a statement. “In just the past few weeks, Terri has done an outstanding job leading our team of journalists … Terri’s news judgment, passion and commitment to local coverage is outstanding.”

Chris Pisano Set to Join WGGB in Springfield

Chris Pisano is joining WGGB, the ABC affiliate in Springfield, Mass., Bottom Line Communications reports.

Pisano was most recently the morning anchor at WRTV in Indianapolis, a job he left in March for family reasons. Before that, he spent seven years at KCTV in Kansas City.

“Throughout my broadcast career, I’d always harbored the hope… dream perhaps… of settling back in New England,” Pisano told Bottom Line Communications. “But for whatever reason, my career brought me to the Midwest where I worked, lived, and raised a family for more than 15 years.”

Pisano will be an anchor and reporter for WGGB.

WRTV Announces New Anchor Team for ‘Good Morning Indiana’

WRTV has announced Marc Mullins and Beth Vaughn will be the morning news team for “Good Morning Indiana.”

“Energy and urgency are what our viewers want in a morning newscast,” said Terri Cope-Walton, WRTV assistant news director. “Beth Vaughn delivers both.”

Vaughn comes to the Indianapolis ABC affiliate from KHSB in Kansas City where she was an anchor and reporter.  Vaughn’s co-anchor, Marc Mullins, comes to WRTV from KMTR in Eugene, OR, where he was also an anchor and reporter.

“We are very pleased Marc is joining our “Good Morning Indiana” team,” said vice president and general manager Larry Blackerby. “His experience as a morning anchor combined with his natural enthusiasm and passion for reporting will be a perfect fit for our morning viewers.”

The new team will start in January.

Veteran Reporter Stacia Matthews Leaving WRTV

Stacia Matthews has announced she will be leaving Indianapolis ABC affiliate WRTV after 23 years as a reporter for the station.

Matthews confirmed with TVSpy she has taken a position as a public relations manager for the Indiana Spine Group.

The veteran reporter’s announcement comes one week after news director Kevin Finch‘s departure from WRTV.

Matthews started at the Indianapolis ABC affiliate in 1989.  She previously worked at WSET in Lynchburg, VA and WTVF in Nashville, TN.
