Sinclair Appoints New GM to Syracuse Stations

cny centralAmy Collins has been named GM of Syracuse NBC and CW affiliates WSTM-WSTQ by Sinclair Broadcast Group. Collins will also oversee sales and non-programming related services for CBS affiliate WTVH. The three stations make up CNYcentral.

“Having grown with these stations over the past 15 years, I am thrilled to be able to lead this team into the future with a great company like Sinclair,” Collins said in a statement.

Collins started at WTVH in 1999 as an account executive. She was named national sales manager in 2000. Two years later, she became the local/general sales manager and was named VP and Director of sales at WSTM, WTVH and WSTQ in 2009.

Chris Geiger Named VP-GM of Tribune’s WTIC-WCCT

chris geigerTribune Broadcasting has named Chris Geiger vice president and general manager of WTIC and WCCT, the Fox and CW affiliates in Hartford-New Haven. Geiger’s appointment is effective April 28.

Geiger comes from Sinclair Broadcasting Group (formerly Barrington Broadcasting Group), where he was president of the company’s Syracuse media properties, including WSTM, WTVH, WSTQ and CNY Central Digital. Sinclair bought the stations from Barrington last year.

“Chris has extensive knowledge of all aspects of managing multiple television stations within a market. He has a successful track record of revenue growth and strong leadership skills and will be a great asset for Tribune’s stations in Hartford,” Tribune Broadcasting COO Lynda King said in a statement.

Geiger replaces Rich Graziano, who recently departed from WTIC-WCCT to become general manager of WPIX, Tribune’s CW affiliate in New York City.

Chris Lawrence Joins WRC From CNN

chris lawrenceChris Lawrence is joining WRC, the NBC owned station in Washington, D.C., as the weekend evening anchor.

Lawrence joins WRC from CNN, where he has worked since 2004, most recently as a Pentagon correspondent. During his 10 years at CNN, he has also worked in the network’s Los Angeles and Chicago bureaus.

“Chris has proven himself to be a first-class journalist. We believe his background and experience make him a perfect fit with the NBC4 team,” WRC vice president of news Mike Goldrick said in a statement.

Before CNN, Lawrence worked at WXYZ in Detroit, WTVH in Syracuse and WDBB in Tuscaloosa. More from WRC after the jump. Read more

WTVH Transmitter Down Since Tuesday

cny centralThe transmitter for Syracuse, NY, CBS affiliate WTVH has been down since New Year’s Eve.

The station is reminding viewers to watch its over-the-air signal on digital channel 3.3, via facebook, Twitter and its own website.

It also asked viewers to sit tight by saying, “Engineers are working on fixing the problem, which started New Year’s Eve evening.”

Yesterday, TVSpy asked WTVH how many viewers were affected by the outage, but we haven’t heard back. We will update when we do.

Scott MacFarlane Joins WRC

Reporter Scott MacFarlane is joining WRC, the NBC owned station in Washington, D.C., vice president of news Mike Goldrick announced today.

“For the past eight years, Scott has been a Washington Bureau reporter for the COX stations, focusing on investigative stories impacting the markets where COX has stations.  He understands enterprise reporting and the importance of digging for stories,” Goldrick wrote in a memo to WRC staffers.

Before joining Cox, MacFarlane was a reporter at WOIO in Cleveland, WWJ in Detroit and WTVH in Syracuse.

Les Vann Named GM at WJCL-WTGS

LIN Media has named Les Vann president and general manager of WJCL and WTGS, the ABC and Fox affiliates in Savannah, Ga.

Vann moves to Savannah from Cincinnati, where he has been vice president and general manager of WKRC for five years. He is also a former general manager of WTVH in Syracuse, N.Y., WLOS in Asheville, N.C., and WICD in Champaign, Ill.

“It is an honor to join one of the most successful and forward-thinking media companies in the country, which has a strong reputation of investing in its products, people and communities,” Van said in a statement.

Vann replaces Scott McBride as the stations’ president and general manager.

Mike Oliveira Promoted to News Director at WPXI

Mike Oliveira has been promoted to news director at Pittsburgh NBC affiliate WPXI, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Oliveira, the station’s managing editor, joined WPXI seven years ago as an executive producer. He has previously worked at WHDH in Boston and WTVH in Syracuse.

“Mike has been with us since 2005 and has had a dramatic impact on our product and people,” WPXI vice president and general manager Ray Cater said in a statement.

Oliveira replaces Michael Goldrick, who was recently named news director at WRC in Washington, DC.
