Sinclair’s Rochester FOX Station to Swap Newscasts

wuhf_304Beginning January 1, viewers of Sinclair owned FOX affiliate WUHF will be watching a different newscast than the one they’ve watched for the last eight years.

Because of Sinclair’s purchase of ABC affiliate WHAM in December 2012 and the expiration of a shared services agreement between WUHF and CBS affiliate WROC viewers will see a WHAM produced newscast on the FOX affiliate instead of the one produced by Nexstar owned WROC.

Currently, WHAM produces a 10:00 p.m. news and a morning show for the Rochester digital CW affiliate. The plan is to have those shows move to FOX. The 10:00 p.m. news will be retitled, “13 WHAM News at 10 on FOX Rochester.” The morning show will be called “Good Day Rochester.”

“We have the No. 1 news broadcast news brand in the market … and we’re going to continue to do that brand on Fox,” WHAM general manager Chuck Samuels told Rochester’s Democrat and Chronicle. “We’re not going to pretend we’re something else. Everyone’s going to know it’s 13 WHAM’s production.” Read more

Rochester Stations Make the Leap to HD

Viewers of Rochester’s CBS affiliate, WROC and FOX affiliate, WUHF got a clearer view of the news last night when both stations began broadcasting in high definition.

“High definition is obviously state-of-the-art,” said WROC vice president and general manager Louis A. Gattozzi.   “You see it at the network level, and this is a continuation of our commitment to deliver the highest quality newscast in every respect.  We are delighted to be able to now offer our viewers technically superior newscasts from this day forward.” Read more

Rochester’s WROC to Launch HD Newscasts

Rochester CBS-affiliate WROC is preparing to launch in high definition.

Matt Malloy announced the HD transition on the 4 p.m. newscast yesterday. WROC newscasts are currently taking place on a temporary set while the old set is dismantled and the new one is built. Newscasts on WUHF, the Fox-affiliate that is operated by WROC through a shared service agreement, will also be transitioning to HD, according to a statement on the station’s website.

“We’re very excited about the changes here and we hope you are too,” Malloy said. “We’re going to have more details about News 8 in HD in the coming weeks.”
