After two years as news director at WIS, Rashida Jones is leaving the Columbia, S.C. NBC affiliate to join MSNBC as an executive producer.

Jones will oversee “Jansing & Co.,” the 10amET show anchored by Chris Jansing. She will begin at MSNBC in August.

“Rashida, a highly-sought after newsroom leader, has always been someone I wanted on our team,” MSNBC VP and executive editor Yvette Miley wrote in an email to MSNBC staffers Wednesday. “She is a visionary who understands strategy and how to lead a team to accomplish a goal.”

Before joining WIS, Jones spent seven years as a producer at The Weather Channel. She has also worked at WTKR in Norfolk, Va., where she produced the 11 p.m. newscast.
