Telemundo Philadelphia Prepping for Launch of Local Newscasts

WWSI, the Telemundo station in Philadelphia, is planning on hiring 15 people in preparation for the launch of local newscasts next year.

The station is hiring 15 people in a variety of roles, including reporter, producer, anchor and photographer. WWSI will launch high definition Spanish language newscasts at 6 and 11 p.m. beginning in January.

“We’re looking for talented Spanish-speaking journalists who are passionate about delivering the Hispanic community the local news and information that is important and relevant in their lives,” Eric Lerner, president and general manager of Telemundo Philadelphia and WCAU, said in a statement.

Station Seeking Spanish-Speaking Journalists and Other Professionals

PHILADELPHIA, PA– (September 11, 2013) – Leading up to an early January launch of its first local newscasts, Telemundo Philadelphia / WWSI today announced that it is recruiting a total of 15 Spanish-speaking journalists and other professionals to fill the roles of reporter, producer, anchor and photographer as well as positions in sales, finance and engineering.  The  additional 15  positions will be based at the Telemundo Philadelphia / WWSI facilities in Bala Cynwyd, PA.

The new hires are needed to launch two new, high-definition Spanish-language newscasts on the station starting in January 2014.  The live, half-hour newscasts, which will air weeknights at 6 PM and 11 PM, will deliver Spanish-speaking viewers across the Philadelphia market with the most relevant information that impacts their daily lives, including local news, weather, entertainment, sports and community news.

The newscasts will benefit from new technology investments in WWSI, including a more powerful transmitter and stronger antenna, scheduled to be installed in November 2013.
