A couple of months ago, the producers of “Army Wives” invited her to film a scene in Charleston, SC after Wegmann, who currently anchors WFTX’s 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts, sent in a video audition.
She had about six lines of dialogue in the episode, which aired in late May, and says that she was comfortable with the shoot until the director instructed her to do something that she’s never done before as a TV reporter.
Wegmann tells the Marco Eagle that the “Army Wives” director told her to walk backwards with the camera, saying, “Just do what you normally do.”
Here’s how Wegmann recounted the incident:
The director thought I was an actor but when he realized I was a real reporter, he said, ‘Just do what you normally do.’ I told him I normally do this, a standup report. He said to walk with the camera. So I suggested something to him, walking kind of sideways.
He still said he wanted me to walk with the camera. I said, ‘You mean walk forward with the camera?’ And he said, ‘No, do what you usually do, walk backwards with the camera.’ I wasn’t catching what he was saying. I said, ‘You want me to walk backwards with the camera?’ And he said ‘Yes, how you would normally do it.’ I thought, we don’t normally do it that way, but of course I just did it.
