Twin Cities’ WCCO Fires News Director

Scott Libin New GM Brien Kennedy has moved to put his imprint on Twin Cities CBS-affiliate WCCO. On Monday, Kennedy announced to the WCCO staff that the station had let go of news director Scott Libin, and, according to the Star-Tribune, the move was a “straight-on firing.”

Libin is a veteran newsroom boss and has been with WCCO since 2007. “It’ll always be a thrill for me to say I worked there,” Libin said on Monday. “I’m proud to have even had the opportunity.”

Kennedy announced that assistant news director Mike Caputa would serve as news director as the station searches for Libin’s replacement. Since Kennedy was hired in June, WCCO has seen a handful of high-profile departures. Reporter Heather Brown left the station last week for New York’s WNYW and Don Shelby, the face of WCCO for over three decades, announced his retirement this summer.
