Veteran TV Personality Robin Swoboda Joins Cleveland’s WKYC

Robin Swoboda, whose eponymous daytime talk show on WJW was cancelled in January, has landed at WKYC, where she’ll anchor the 7 p.m. newscast.

Swoboda has been a popular figure in the Cleveland area over the past couple of decades years.  Before launching “The Robin Swoboda Show” on WJW, Swoboda did multiple stints with the Fox-affiliate, including anchoring the station’s 6 p.m. newscast in the late 90s.  She also spent time at WEWS, where she co-hosted the ABC-affiliate’s “Morning Exchange.”

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it all,” Swoboda said, “from local shows to network programming to the ‘Morning Exchange.’ But my first love has always been news, and I feel that’s where my strongest contributions will be. I’m truly excited to join the news team at WKYC.”

WKYC, an NBC-affiliate, says the addition of Swoboda will allow the station to deploy its news team more effectively.  The 7 p.m. newscast has been helmed by reporters Monica Robins and Eric Mansfield, meaning WKYC has had fewer people in the field.

“We took two of our strongest beat reporters off the street and moved them into a different role at 7,” explained Rita Andolsen, WKYC’s news director. “The opportunity to hire Robin coincided with our realization that we needed to reinstate resources for our medical coverage and Akron/Canton content.”
