Smrekar started at WBAY as a production assistant in 1984. He became a photographer three years later.
“He’s been a constant friend for a lot of years,” WBAY chief photographer John Devroy said. “Joe was a very dedicated person. There’s not a more dedicated person you’ll find.”
According to the station, one of Smrekar’s passions was shooting Green Bay Packer games. “But aside from his stellar work, what we’ll remember most is Joe the person, the colleague and friend who lived his life with integrity.”
Joe’s family will receive friends at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason Street, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, April 25.
