WFXT’s Kim Carrigan: ‘I Really Hoped For A Different Outcome’

Kim Carrigan is speaking out on her recent dismissal from Boston Fox O&O WFXT.

“I really hoped for a different outcome,” Carrigan told the Boston Herald. “I’m not going to say that I was shocked, but I’m disappointed. My intention was to stay.”

Carrigan, who joined WFXT in 2004, was told after Tuesday’s morning newscast that she had anchored her last show. A Fox spokesperson said only that Carrigan’s contract was not renewed.

Carrigan, who the Herald calls the “grand dame” of Boston television, said her story should serve as a warning to high-profile, high-salaried anchors in local news.

“My situation today may explain how risky it is,” Carrigan said. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My experience here on television, up to this point, has been so great and I hope it’s not the end.”

Meteorologist A.J. Burnett, an employee of WFXT since 2003, was also let go last week, according to a statement he made on his personal blog.
