London Underground Once Again A Friend to Nudity
If you're going to be in London anytime soon and are of a delicate disposition, it's probably a good idea for you to skip taking the Tube, as ArtInfo is reporting that, following a big controversy that swept the mighty United Kingdom, the moral-less Royal Academy of Arts has convinced the Transport for London authority to allow a nude painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder to stay up in the Underground tunnels, as part of an exhibit running at the Academy. But did they ever once stop to think of the children?! Being exposed to all that titillating, vile, sixteenth-century flesh?! Anyway, if you can stomach it, here's a bit: ...Transport for London banned the promotional posters, telling the Web site Underwire: "Millions of people travel on the London Underground each day, and they have no choice but to view whatever adverts are posted there. We have to take account of the full range of travelers and endeavor not to cause offense in the advertising we display." However, after the media caught wind of the story, Transport for London relented, and the advertisements will go up after all. Email This Post |
