Alex Bogusky to Publish Suspicious ‘Diet’ Book

In one of the strangest little pieces of news we’ve reported on lately, Alex Bogusky, one third of the ad firm Crispin Porter + Bogusky is set to release a book called The 9-Inch Diet, which is purported to talk about “the twisted conspiracy that’s making our country fat.” Suspicions have immediately been raised of course, given that Bogusky’s firm has been held high in reviving Burger King with their long series of wonderfully bizarre ads (including the fake book Eating the Angus Diet, and have recently taken on Domino’s Pizza as a client. Creativity tries to remain as removed as they possibly can from passing any judgement, but it’s fairly clear that they’re expecting this to be another bit of fakery from the firm who does it so well. Here’s a bit about the announcement of the book’s release:

The book’s announcement is at the very front of PowerHouse‘s Fall/Winter 2008-2009 catalog, in an insert that appears to have been designed differently than the rest of the book. The copy carries a cavalier attitude to what [Chuck Porter] and Bogusky do during the day, stating “With years of experience manipulating the masses, two of the best tricksters in the industry explain how you as a consumer are being duped, and how you are actually a part of the conspiracy to make you fat.”
