Amazon’s Kindle: Scoble Offers…um…Design Critiques?

1128kindle.jpg

Now that we’re a week out, there’s not been much love being shown toward Amazon’s Kindle. LAist just put up this collection of links, which are mostly negative, as well as a couple of paragraphs and the video below (with its incredibly obnoxious player) to Robert Scoble. Although, having seen it ourselves, we’ve kinda gone along with most of the negative press, we thought Scoble’s bullet-point laden, “Dear Jeff Bezos” letter companion-to-a-video synopsis was a bit silly. At front and center is that he includes “5. No social network. Why don’t I have a list of all my friends who also have Kindles and let them see what I’m reading?” and “6. No touch screen. The iPhone has taught everyone that I’ve shown this to that screens are meant to be touched.” In answer to answer the first: what’s wrong with you? In answer to the second: no, really, what’s wrong with you? Even though we just said we’re not the biggest Kindle fans, we’ve gotta stand up for it in this regard because these two questions are just absurd and lacking any qualified design criticism for a device that is supposed to be a portable book, not a &#$!* PDA! Yet we’re left with his final statement: “Whoever designed this should be fired and the team should start over.” Though we digress. Arg.
