AIA Hopes Things Keep Moving in '08
The American Institute of Architects is apparently trying to keep the ball of popularity rolling into 2008, after their big surge of attention with their "America's Favorite Architecture" poll from this past fall. Architectural Record is reporting on the huge online traffic spike the AIA received from the poll, as well as within their local chapters, and now what they're doing to keep people coming back with various exhibits and ad campaigns. And, from what we read, it sounds like they're doing a bang up job of it: This increased dialogue could also help bolster the AIA's ranks, says 2008 national president Marshall Purnell, FAIA. The AIA currently numbers 83,000 architects and the group is looking to add some of the 29,000 licensed U.S. architects who are not yet members, for a total membership goal of 100,000 by 2010. Purnell says that an even more important benefit of increased public dialog would be to inspire children to careers in architecture, to think, "maybe that's something that I can do."
