A long time ago, in another life, we met one of the artists behind the new curatorial collective Gild, and were like whatever, artist, yeah, everyone's an artist, and then we saw his stuff and we were like Ohhhhhhh you ARE an artist. Turns out, we discovered very recently, that Mertzalini aka Jose's not just an artist, but also a bit of an art-world entrepreneur and roaming curator, along with Yesenia. Because last names are so last year.

So we looked at the spankin' new Gild site and thought it was cool, especially the Gild $200 gallery, which has original artwork for sale for... wait for it, wait for it, wait for it, $200, which gives the artists a little kick and people like us a little shot at art ownership.

Mostly we were psyched because there's a party tomorrow for the newest Gild show, Static Free. Only because we're so phenomenally thorough we asked Jose why, aside from it being a party, we should go, and Yesenia answered:

Gild's long awaited second showcase, Static Free opens on Friday night. There will be wine, fantastic art by up and coming artists & Pismo of Shou Records spinning behind the ones and two's. Static Free showcases the extraordinary talent of Mertzalini, Arvind Palep and C Lamont Walk. Using state of the art technology they retell the human experience using dreams to symbols to slick modular architectural forms that blur the line between fiction and reality.
