My Thesis Is To Build a Flashier Oatmeal Container
Here's something for just a handful of people who will think, "That's really cool," such as this writer, who is a big nerd. Sonoco Products, a company based in South Carolina, has donated two and a half million dollars to the small Clemson University, also in S.C., to found the nation's first university department dedicated to the study of packaging design. According to the AP article, the program will be called The Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics, and will focus on these specifics: "research, testing and product development; training; student and faculty projects; and, short courses and special programs." While probably not the most exciting thing to most people, unlike a lot of design programs across the country at smaller universities which often focus on a more lofty, artistic idea of design, to this writer anyway, it seems to serve a really important purpose that would actually have some practical application for graduates after they leave school. Because, hey, if anything, they could probably land a job at Sonoco, a big-time packaging company (hence their investment into creating this department). Email This Post |
