Thanks in large part to visionary window dresser-turned-global style oracle Simon Doonan, Barneys remains the store to beat when it comes to holiday campaigns. We're still reeling from the Warholidays celebration of 2006, but this year, the department store is promoting peace, love, and shopping with a "Hippie Holiday" theme that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the peace sign. Think bohemian luxury, groovy green gifts, and alternative style. This evening, Barneys officially unveils its much-anticipated holiday window displays, masterminded by creative director Doonan, at a sidewalk bash that kicks off at 5 p.m. at its Manhattan flagship. The guest of honor will be Tom Brokaw, which seemed to us a wonderfully random choice until we learned that the newscaster is the author of Boom: Voices From the Sixties. Also on display will be a custom version of VW's New Beetle tricked out with trippy 60's graphics by artist Jean-Paul Philippe. And it's a special charity shopping night. Translation: not only is that buttery satin Doo.Ri dress on sale, but a portion of its price will benefit Earth Pledge FutureFashion and VW's Carbon Neutral Project. Sold.
