For some, today might signal the final chapter of a month-long credit card-wielding saga. But to us, it's also a reminder that there's only a few more days to catch the month-long engagement of Of All the People in All the World: The Americas, a performance and installation at the Skirball here in Los Angeles. British performance group Stan's Cafe uses 33,000 pounds of rice to represent the 900 million people living in North and South America, sifting the grains into piles that give a sudden meaning to the facts and figures that often fly right over our heads.

These numbers can range from the most serious statistics (number of deaths while crossing the Mexico/Arizona border) to pop culture trivia (number of Harry Potter fans who bought the final book in the series on its release date). They even take requests--visitors can ask for the piles to shift to reflect their questions about the world. But there's only a few days left to compare the number of the number of prisoners worldwide with the number of people living in gated communities in the US (it's frighteningly close: 9 million vs. 8 million). The show closes December 30.
