As Gotham continues to flirt with that most dreaded and unpredictable of weather conditions, the "wintry mix," we need little coaxing to think of Los Angeles, so what better time to pass along news from UnBeige Editor Emeritus Alissa Walker about an imminent design happening in her very own backyard? Opening next Wednesday evening at the Gallery at REDCAT is "Two Lines Align," a double-the-fun exhibition of drawings and graphic design by Ed Fella and Geoff McFetridge. A taste of the exciting, cross-generational juxtapositions that will be on view is pictured above, with a page from Fella's 1996 sketchbook shown to the left of a 2007 drawing by McFetridge.

The show was curated by graphic designer Michael Worthington, who describes it as exploring "the shifts in the perceived cultural worth [of art and graphic design] over time...by placing Fella's and McFetridge's design careers end to end to make one chronological line, one lineage. While Fella's career reflects how graphic design has historically struggled to define itself in relationship to art, McFetridge follows a path wherein the integration of art and design is taken for granted."

Among the exhibition highlights are the complete set of Fella's 130 do-it-yourself flyers (from the first in 1969--to the most recent produced for this exhibition) and "a new, site-specific installation" by McFetridge.
