Exploring the Cost of Keeping Olympic Buildings Post-Olympics

Now that the Olympics have finally come to a firework-y end, you will likely begin to see and hear all of those “So what now, China?” stories, along the lines of what the country is going to do with all of these massive architectural marvels they built for two weeks worth of use. We saw a few of these before the Olympics kicked off, including one we talked about from a while back about Olympic cities that made it work, but now we should begin to witness the coming onslaught of these pieces, all with a more critical bent, now that it’s safe to go back to critiquing China. Thus far, we’ve found one that we enjoyed, Kriston Capps‘ “Architecture After the Flame Goes Out,” which goes above and beyond the standard form and gets into crunching the numbers on how much it’ll cost to keep these buildings around, to transition them into every day life, and, in the end, if it’s better to keep them or get the bulldozers fired up.
