Are the Home Design Networks Going to Suffer From the Reality TV Boom?
This post might only be of interest to this writer's mother, who watches those HGTV networks like it was court-ordered. But in Newsday's "What's Coming Up On Home Design TV Shows," we thought it was kind of interesting, reading between the lines a bit and maybe making this up entirely, that, with every single network on television slowly being forced to go reality, it seems like these design networks, which were all reality programing from the get-go, are feeling the pressure now that they have a billion other competitors in the same basic market, and have turned things up a notch, like this upcoming episode on a show called "Take Home Handyman," where a serviceman deployed overseas gets help finishing projects back home (if you can't already hear the sad music surrounding this one before every commercial break, you've likely never seen a television before). But maybe we're just reaching here. Our standards have been slowly dulling since around 1986. Email This Post |
