Even More of Suicide = Hilarious
Remember there a few years back when all of the movie studios had movies about the same thing coming out at the same time? There was a pirate movie, then a different pirate movie. Then a "asteroid kills everyone" movie, then another. While we seem to have moved on from that in the film world, onto more enlightened fare like "Norbit," the ad world, which has suffered from this many times before, might have just started this sort of trend up again. As you'll recall from a couple of posts of ours these past couple of weeks, suicide is apparently a great way to sell products. Learning nothing from GM's decision to pull their spot, Volkswagen is going to start running a new spot called "Jumper" about the same kind of thing: The campaign, Grace said, would begin with three broadcast spots from MDC Partners' Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Miami, including an ad called "Jumper," in which a suicidal man stands on the ledge of a building as a crowd and police gather. The man then changes his mind after a stranger tells him about the three sub-$17,000 models from VW, said Grace, a dealer in Baton Rouge, La. Email This Post |
