Frank Baseman’s Sad Case of Trying to Do Good in Philadelphia

Design Info pointed us over to one of those so-absurd-it’s-nearly-funny type of design horror stories over at the AIGA in “Where is the (Brotherly) Love?” The author, Frank Baseman, professional designer and professional professor, wanted to combat the rise in homicide victims in his city of Philadelphia by doing something positive for the city and putting a message out there, as best he could. He pushed himself, convinced others to donate their time and resources, and moved his way into finally realizing everything he’d set out to do. Then, of course, was when it all fell apart. It’s a sad story, probably a similar sensation felt by a ton of other well-meaning people out there, made all the worse if the conclusion wasn’t so damn frustrating. If it’s worth anything, we feel your pain Frank.
