Howard Grossman Promises He Didn’t Steal from Chip Kidd

Fun little piece of apologizing and clearing up over at Ironic Sans. A few months back, the site had called out book jacket designer Howard Grossman for ripping off Chip Kidd‘s Jurassic Park design for a book he’d put together, Tyrannosaur Canyon. But then, while surfing around the internet, Grossman found said post and dropped the site an e-mail, clearing the whole thing up and explaining that it was, in fact, all the publisher’s fault. Here’s some:

The original hardcover version (done for Forge books) used my design. I would be curious at who did the edition that you show on your blog. They completely rearranged the elements of my design to do exactly what you argue — that is, create a direct rip-off the Jurassic Park cover. But they didn’t stop there, they decided to “credit” me with the design.

If you’re listening, Chip — I didn’t do it!
