Isn’t It Grand?

We know what you’re thinking–that just looks like a bunch of milk cartons glued together for a second-grade science project. But it’s actually the first phase of a $1.8 billion dollar overhaul of downtown LA’s Grand Avenue, created by architecture’s biggest box office draw.
Craig Webb, Gehry’s partner and co-star, along with Melinda Taylor, famed garden and landscape designer, and LA Phil conductor Alexander Mickelthwate, will be speaking about Disney Hall (also a Gehry-baby, but you knew that) and its role in the Grand Avenue Project, a massive cultural corridor that includes a 16-acre park. The three, who collaborated on Disney Hall three years ago, will describe how its design has ushered in a new era of urban transformation. It’s true! We’ve even heard whispers of a “real” downtown!
