It’s My Way Or…I’ll Leave And Take The Highway

Seth Godin, just some random guy who, last month, discovered the internet and decided to start blogging about this and that (our fingers are crossed that he opens up a Cafe Press shop soon), recently had up a terrific post: “How to Live Happily with a Great Designer.” It’s addressed to clients, and concerns ways in which you can get the most out of your designer or firm. It’s one of those things that, as anyone involved in a creative profession, you enjoy reading, rolling your eyes, and thinking, “Oh man, ha ha, I’ve totally been there.” But, being as Godin was blessed with extra brains, or is possibly just a gifted writer, there’s also a batch in there that might offer a few “a ha” moments in possibly helping to lay down the law when you’re being sidetracked and burdened by calls for “make it pop” and the strange lust clients feel for drop shadow. This, for example, we really liked:

It’s going to offend someone. If it doesn’t offend them, then it will make them nervous. The Vietnam Vets memorial offended a lot of people. The design of Google made plenty of people nervous. Great work from a design team means new work, refreshing and remarkable and bit scary.
