Kanye West Does Care About Designer People

idx070801_dd12.jpg

The news that Kanye West is flipping his Beverly Hills manse, which includes “plans to build two-story contemporary by world renowned architect” sent us clicking over to Your Mama at the ex-cellent Realestalker blog for the scoop. Turns out the architect is not named, but we did learn something else—the real story is West’s Hollywood Hills home, which was covered in the August issue of Interior Design.

Here’s how he greets editor Edie Cohen: “It’s been my dream to be in Interior Design.” No joke.

We’ve talked about West’s NY apartment before, but this minimalist interior by Don Stewart and its contents proves West is total a design freak, with lots of pop art, Ingo Maurer lights, one of those stuffed-animal Brothers Campana chairs, a Marcel Wanders table, and at least a dozen pieces by Takashi Murakami.

Second, and final, awesome Kanye Quote: “In the past year and a half, I’ve been stepping up my relationship with Murakami.”

In fact, they’ve collaborated on a music video and a medallion (ah, manga bling), and Murakami designed the single art for Graduation. All of which is most laughable to us, since we casually mentioned that we knew Kanye West was a fan of Murakami the other week. If we had only known then what we know now.
