Kidrobot Reboots in Los Angeles

kidrobot6.jpg

Kidrobot’s LA store reopened last night as a sliver of its former self: they’ve moved from their high-ceiling, high-traffic Third Street Promenade location to a tiny corridor on Melrose. But you know what? This one’s better. Toys are now displayed with museum-quality reverence along one wall, Kidrobot’s new limited-edition apparel is lined up along the other. And all this under a blue sky dotted with hot pink rainbows and stars. Plus it makes for one hell of a shopping block with the new Paul Frank store a few doors down.

We were lucky enough to soak up the new digs in the quiet before the storm. Hundreds of fans, some whom had been there since 7am, were lined up around the block, some of them already wearing the new numbered hoodies premiering inside–they’d bought them online the week before and were back for more. Adorable Kidrobot papa Paul Budnitz was all smiles as he toasted his crew for all their hard work. But the star of the night sat outside the entire time–a VW Rabbit customized with a Dunny pattern is rumored to be on the market in a few years. It makes sense: no longer just a world-of-toys, Kidrobot is definitely going places.
