Mayor Asks for Banksy to Tag His City…For Kids

Part two of this “so strange it shouldn’t be true” comes this story from Art Info about the mayor of Bristol in the UK asking uber-famous graffiti artist and cash cow, Banksy, if he’ll donate something for the good of the city. Maybe it’s our upbringing in the 70s and 80s where we heard nothing but “graffiti will ruin us all!” comments and then moving to Chicago with its Mayor Daley’s Graffiti Blasters, but this mayor-likes-graffiti idea just blows our minds. Now we won’t be surprised at all if we see a dog and a cat walking hand in hand down the street today. Here’s some:

The work would be sold in an auction set to take place in May, and while Griffee is asking for donations from other individuals, as well as corporations, he said the Banksy work would be “top of the list”. The mayor added, “I’ve always thought he was a fantastic artist.”
