Mind the Type

London Underground.jpg

Created in 1913 when London Transport manager Frank Pick commissioned typographer Edward Johnston, this typeface has been used for all of London’s Underground system signage for almost a hundred years with only a very slight modification in the 70′s (we think they added those odd diamond dots to the i’s).

Quick, then, name that type!

Answer here.

Update: Joe Clark says we’re “quite wrong” about the diamond tittles (we just wanted to write that word), and he’s quite right–we couldn’t see it clearly at the museum but once we zoomed in to the photo below (a print of the typeface when it was created, which hangs at the V&A)–the tittles are pointy.
