New Yorker Kicks Off Third Year of Their Eustace Tilley Contest

It’s that time again to start what’s becoming one of our favorite annual traditions: the New Yorker‘s Eustace Tilley Contest. Following the success it saw with 2008′s entries, the second year of the contest, the magazine has brought it back for another round. Last year’s winner and runners-up were terrific, taking on original illustrator Rea Irvin‘s iconic character and putting him in either of-this-era scenarios or altogether absurd new ones. So should you think you have the chops to re-contextualize Tilley, here’s the entry form, and here’s all the pertinent info:

Eustace Tilley appeared on our first cover, in 1925, and has returned for nearly every anniversary issue since. For the third year in a row, we are inviting readers to create their own versions of Eustace. Entries should be submitted by January 18, and the winners will be featured in a slide show curated by the New Yorker‘s art editor, Francoise Mouly, that will appear on newyorker.com in February to coincide with our 85th anniversary.
