New York Gets High Line
After years, and legislation, and months, and an exhibit at MoMA, The High Line officially broke ground (air?) today in Manhattan. The abandoned elevated railway will be turned into an urban refuge a la the Promenade Plantee in Paris. Our NPR friends attended the ceremony, and you can check out the website Friends of the High Line with tons of gorgeous photos, detailed history, a film, all 720 proposals from the design competition and renderings from architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro and landscape design firm Field Operations. Keep in mind, too, that this entire project was initiated by two guys who lobbied the city to purchase the railway. What did you do today? Email This Post |
