Where's The Porn, Nicky?
Our favorite New York Times architecture critic totally copied us and wrote a story on the PS1 installation Sur, by California-based architect Hernan Diaz Alonso. While he managed to avoid the word undulate, he did get a little too saucy for our typical Gray Lady comfort when describing the installation we kinda thought looked like a beached alien skeleton. Their gigantic petal-like forms are clothed in elastic fabric fastened with zippers, giving them a slightly erotic feel. If that isn't offering PS1 the first flower of womanhood (ew), we don't know what is. For some reason, Ouroussoff seems to have a slightly different take than we came away with last time we talked to Diaz Alonso. Maybe it's because we've got a bigger rack than he does, but our conversation totally brought up seventies porn while it seems Nicolai and Hernan kept everything well above board. Mr. Diaz Alonso says his design was inspired by a range of influences, including science fiction animation, old Warner Brothers cartoons and plastic surgery. We haven't made it to Warm Up yet, but the prospect of getting back to our raver roots is getting us all riled up for sophomore year redux. You bring the Vicks, we'll bring the hottness.
