Animation Master Joseph Barbera Dead at 95Toon Town is reeling after the death yesterday of Joseph Barbera, one-half the animation powerhouse Hanna-Barbera, and creator of pretty much every cartoon you watched wide-eyed in footie pajamas while a bowl of Cheerios sat congealing beside you. Barbera is survived by the Flintstone, Rubble and Jetson families, Tom, Jerry, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Papa Smurf, Smurfette and the entire Smurf village, Gargamel, Azrael, Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, Norville "Shaggy" Rogers, Scooby-Doo (and Scrappy, too), Jonny Quest, Space Ghost, Zorak, Moltar, Brak, and many, many more. USA Today honors him as an icon of childhood, the LA Times gives him Hollywood treatment, and the New York Times tells of a letter Barbera wrote to Walt Disney looking for employment--Disney promised to meet him, but never did. We'd say that's what you call fate. And can we peek briefly at that logo?
