Returning to our photo theme from earlier today, we're excited to report that the Metropolitan Museum of Art has just released additional details on the second exhibition in its new gallery for contemporary photographs. Opening April 8, "Photography on Photography: Reflections on the Medium since 1960" will present four decades worth of photos by artists in the Met's permanent collection who have taken photography itself as their subject. So yes, look for the work of Sherrie Levine, Richard Prince, Vito Acconci, Thomas Ruff, and Hiroshi Sugimoto, as well as recently acquired works by such artists as Kota Ezawa, Josephine Pryde, and Mark Wyse. According to Met curator Malcolm Daniel, the show's inclusion of work by younger artists will provide "more of a snapshot of where photography is at the moment" (we can never resist that pun either, Malcolm!).

As for the old school fans of a good mise en abyme, the show will feature William Anastasi's 1967 games with the then newly invented instant camera. Pictured above is his "Nine Polaroid Portraits of a Mirror," a conceptual exercise in which Anastasi gradually covered and replaced a mirror with pictures of itself. Us being suckers for exponentially multiplying self-referentiality, we're hoping this one gets prominent play on the exhibition's poster, catalogue, and/or marketing materials.
