We already ran through all the design-world scandals we could think of or creatively reinvent for our purposes, but it seems we are, shockingly, not alone in our interest in the sordid and perverse. Archinect, the venerable institution that lost its swerve when it changed the slogan from Pimpin' Architecture to Making Architecture More Connected (sorry, one second, we just threw up in our mouths a bit), has a whole thread on the Tom Cruise/Rob Thomas/Katie Holmes/Scientology/Ritalin/Matt Lauer/Kirstie Alley/we should stop now debacle. The Architect's Newspaper is a little more focused, with items about Robert Tierney and Laurie Beckelman's too-close-for-comfort friendship, how NYU buildings suck, and Michael Arad's finally getting to control something.

When it comes to the Ground Zero memorial, Michael Arad is definitely in the driver's seat. Arad, who designed its competition-winning scheme, recently won a MINI Cooper at the AIA convention in Las Vegas. But when we heard rumors that landscape architect Peter Walker, who has also been brought into the memorial project, was claiming the car for himself, we braced for yet another power struggle. However, "Not true," Arad told us, joking that Walker has so far resisted steering the wheel from the passenger's seat.

We've had our differences, but we're psyched for him. Just like we're psyched for TomKat's wedding night.
