Sean Connery’s New Book Has Everyone in Scotland Angry

We don’t even know where to begin with this one, but that’s not going to stop us from talking about it. Okay, so the first thing you need to know is that actor Sean Connery has published a book about being Scottish called Being a Scot. And because of this book, because he talks frankly and openly about his opinions of where Scotland has gotten things right and where they’ve gone badly, he has everyone, largely in Edinburgh, in a tizzy. Former local big shot politician Donald Anderson is mad about the way Connery has talked about the city’s architecture, the Scotsman newspaper isn’t happy about the way he’s described the city planning, upset about “the mixed messages” he’s sending out about the place, and even the head of the Scottish railroad is angry about the book and is defending the decision to add the prefix “Edinburgh” to the “Waverly Station” signage. It’s all really, really specific, strange little arguments and you likely won’t understand a thing about what you’re reading in any of the links above, but they’re all really fun to read, because how often do you hear a lot of petty in-fighting between a whole country and an actor?
