Stirling It Up

We’re working on developing our own contest (details TK, but for real, get psyched), but in the meantime we thought we’d weigh in on the Stirling Prize, which recognizes “the building which has made the greatest contribution to British architecture in the last year.” Pretty final. Not quite near the Pritzker, at least in terms of our familiarity, the British prize carries a 20,000-pound, um, purse.
Six shortlisted finalists are buildings by Zaha Hadid (“coquettish”); Enric Miralles and RMJM (“extraordinary”…”extraordinary”); Bennetts Associates with Lomax Cassidy and Edwards (“cross-subsidised”); Foster and Partners (“built”); Alsop Design (“some bemusement”); O’Donnell and Tuomey (“better”).
We’re voting for Zaha. She’s gonna have to go ahead and pay for the honeymoon somehow.
