Paper Covers Art

Last night at the Paper party in the Raleigh’s parking lot, the mood, vibe and energy was completely different than the other Art Baseliciousness we encountered (and lots more fun than being stuffed in a container). Kim Hastreiter curated a show by the artists at Creative Growth named “Art. (Another Way to Look at It).” Hastreiter asked the artists to reinterpret famous pieces by artists like Richard Prince, Damien Hirst, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson and more. Some of them—we won’t say which—were better than the originals. Cheryl Dunn also shot photos and video of the artists in costume, which adorned the walls. More shots by our ace photographer coming soon.

Just as clever was the soundtrack in the tent, where covers of songs were paired with their originals. As we peeked behind the DJ booth curtain, we saw it was none other than our favorite design entrepreneurs Andrew Andrew, decked out in Miami Beachwear. They’re DJing, like, every party down here.

We Are Hella Stoked That Paper is Hella Stoked to Be In LA

It’s November, which means Los Angeles gets showered with love and kisses from our fondest fan, Paper. Last year we gushed about the mag’s temporary space in Hollywood that raged for three days with art shows, panels and free MAC Lip Glass (score!).

This year is shaping up to be even more gush-worthy. In addition to art shows by Phyllis Diller (yes, the very same ANP Quarterly covergirl), a Colette-sponsored “Thriller” dance-a-long, and a party for Cheryl Dunn‘s new book, Paper is pulling together a pop-up store in a Barbara Bestor-designed storefront on La Brea. For 24 hours starting Friday at 6pm, limited edition products will be sold by (take a deep breath before reading):

Colette, Opening Ceremony, Undefeated, The Smell, Levi’s, Screaming Mimi’s, Ooga Booga, Mollusk, Citizen Citizen, PAPER art store, M.A.C. cosmetics, Family, RVCA, Showpony, Creative Growth, Lost and Found, A+R, Heartschallenger, Cobra Snake, Supreme, Ingo Maurer, Threeasfour, FUCT, Karen Kimmel, Rodarte, Jack Spade, Jeremy Scott, Barbara Bestor

We can’t wait to watch not-so-undercover design guru Kim Hastreiter fawning over all her finds. All details here.
