Kanye West Graduates From Design Fan to Architecture Critic

denarikanye.jpg

We’d seen our cohorts at Curbed LA wearing those slatted shades and all, but turns out they’re even more hardcore Kanye West fans than we thought. Only someone who diligently reads West’s blog would have uncovered West’s first legit architecture review.

In his post, West gives mad love to the Neil Denari-designed concept for something called the Useful + Agreeable House:

The house is suited for different climates and housing plans, from small-lot to clusters, as vacation properties or rooftop penthouses, just to name a few uses. Upon first glance, it reminded you of that new-fangled luggage you’ve seen sitting on the baggage carousel (and a little of an airplane lavatory).

Upon first glance, we were like, dude, did he really write this? To draw the conclusion between the building and hardside luggage, then continue the travel metaphor all the way to the airplane lavatory? And using the word lavatory? Someone give this guy a column.

Also noted, something that will certainly make Harry Wakefield happy and further cements West’s design credentials. Yup, right next to his BFF Takashi Murakami in his blogroll (does that KanyeUniverCity website look familiar?), West lists MoCo Loco.

He’s for reals, y’all.

Hollywood & Highland Declared the Fugliest of All By Curbed LA

2007-04-hh-ugly2.jpg

Disclaimer: There will be no jokes in this post about how easy it is to hold an Ugliest Building Contest in Los Angeles.

Nevertheless, today Curbed LA declared its winner: Hollywood & Highland, the triumphantly ever-morphing mall for tourists. When asked to judge this contest with such local luminaries as Christopher Hawthorne, Lorcan O’Herlihy and Ryan from LosAnjealous, we fully expected that H&H would be a front runner, but we swore to ourselves that we would not malign the white elephants. Hollywood & Highland is not only the building nearest to our hearts (literally) but it truly is the building dearest to our hearts. And by dearest to our hearts, we mean they have a Beard Papa’s, something we simply cannot write this blog without. Say what you will about Hollywood & Highland, but we say: a strawberry cream puff is not ugly.

Thanks to everyone at Curbed LA for this invaluable experience.

Curbed LA Gets CA Boomed

2007-04-seltzer3.jpg

While we were busy asking Y, our comrades at Curbed LA were busy liveblogging CA Boom, the furniture, prefab and architecture extravaganza that took place this weekend in Santa Monica. Since we couldn’t be there, we recommend their posts, especially their comprehensive coverage of the back of one of the Bizzy Blondes, the real estate agents you will likely never, ever forget for the rest of your life, should you need to acquire some property in West Los Angeles, or, we’re guessing, if you just want to chat. “Ask me about real estate,” indeed.
