The Slimane, Koons and Rams Touch

guests.jpg

Back in July we discovered that the unlikely trio of Jeff Koons, Dieter Rams and Hedi Slimane would be guest editing a future issue of Wallpaper, and today, via Creative Review’s blog, we see that that issue has come to fruition.

Each editor got 20 pages and a cover (collect all three!) but Patrick Burgoyne intelligently gives Koons major props for seeing into the future–a 16-page spread on Led Zeppelin couldn’t have been better timed, what with their reunion and all.

Slimane, Koons and Rams to Guest Edit Wallpaper

Since Wallpaper is the design magazine of the moment (they must be, if we mention them twice in one day), it should come as no surprise to you that they are having three guest editors for their October issue who will each design their own cover. “We’re an eclectic title with so many disciplines of design–we decided to have three guest editors instead of one,” said editor Andrew Black.

Look for work by Jeff Koons, Dieter Rams and Hedi Slimane, who no doubt got the gig after adding Wallpaper as a friend to his MySpace page.

Hedi Slimane’s Killer MySpace Page Sure to Land Him a Gig

The contract of eternally dour fashion designer Hedi Slimane was not renewed by Dior Homme last month, leading to wide speculation about his next move. While it doesn’t necessarily answer our burning questions, HediSlimane.com delivers a portfolio of his work and an awesome peek into Slimane’s brain, post-exit:

I BELIEVED DIOR HOMME, NEWLY CREATED, COULD BE A HOLISTIC PROJECT. THROUGH THE YEARS I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO COLLABORATE WITH SO MANY CREATIVE MINDS AND DEVELOP A COMMON SENSIBILITY. I WANT TO THANK THEM ALL FOR A REALLY FRUITFUL COLLABORATION. IT WAS A TIME CAPSULE–7 YEARS OF PRODUCING MUSIC, BANDS, ARCHITECTURAL SPACES, ART PROJECTS, AND DESIGN. I GUESS I WAS SOLELY INTERESTED IN THE TIME I WAS IN, LIVING IN COMPLETE MOVEMENT.

I ALWAYS TRIED TO STAY FAITHFUL TO MY BELIEFS, AND THE IDEAS I WAS PURSUING. I TRIED NOT TO GET DISTRACTED. I HAD A CERTAIN IDEA OF THE HOUSE OF DIOR, WHICH I LOVE, AND TRIED TO EXPRESS IT THROUGH DIFFERENT MEDIUMS. IT WON’T BE FOR ME TO JUDGE IF IT WAS OF ANY RELEVANCE. I WAS JUST TRYING SOMETHING.

Luckily, he is also trying out online communities, and his MySpace page is the equivalent of a teeny tiny black Dior suit. Add him as a friend, won’t you? Maybe it will cheer him up.
