Characters In Librarian Comic Strip Don’t Respect Web Designer Skills

unshelved.jpg

If you haven’t heard, librarians are way cool, cool enough to have their own comic strip named Unshelved (get it?). But the latest installment is so incendiary to professional designers, it’s sure to have a crew from A List Apart storming the nearest local library with plans to shatter the mandated silence by screaming bloody murder amidst the stacks. Read on–but be prepared. You’ll be so mad you’ll end up returning that book on Romanian history five years after its due date. That’ll show ‘em not to mess with designers.

Thanks to Tom Biederbeck.

UnBeige Editor to Poison Minds at Art Center

SpeakerPodium.jpg

You would have thought word of our incendiary propaganda campaign would have reached the West Coast by now, but apparently this is not the case, since the lovely folk at Art Center have enlisted our public speaking services for next week.

“Worth 1000 Words: Writing About Design,” will take place Wednesday, June 27 at 7:30pm in that funky black building perched high above Pasadena, California. Petrula Vrontikis will moderate, and joining us is STEP editor Tom Biederbeck (for the second time that week) and Schools of Thoughts crowdpleaser Peter Lunenfeld, Professor, Media Design Program and Editorial Director, MIT Mediawork Series. And this lucky UnBeige editor has to follow that. We’re already sweatin’ bullets.

This event is free and open to the public, no RSVP required. It will be held at Art Center’s Los Angeles Times Media Center and in case you don’t know, here’s how to get there.

UnBeige Wants to Party All the Time, Party All the Time, Party All the Time

15146.jpg

Continuing our one-event-per-quarter streak, we’ve got another UnBeige party lined up for Monday, June 25 at the Geisha House out here in sunny LA. We’re teaming up with our good friends at STEP inside design, who will be giving away copies of STEP and some other very special goodies.

Editor Tom Biederbeck will be in town for the festivities, and we hear the mag’s other LA-based contributors like Sean Adams, Stefan Bucher and Terry Stone will be making appearances as well. Besides, doesn’t that gal on the cover over there look like she knows how to party all the time? Maybe she’ll be there, too.

Monday, June 25 from 7-9pm, RSVP here.

Revolving Door: Emily Potts STEPs Down, Tom Biederbeck STEPs Up

13207.jpg

Emily Potts writes to tell us she’ll be leaving her position as editor-in-chief of STEP Inside Design at the end of the month. Potts has been with the magazine 8 1/2 years, and ushered it from Step-by-Step to the STEP above it is today. In ultimate Revolving Door fashion, Potts will be taking the position at Rockport Publishing vacated by Kristin Ellison, which we told you about first.

Tom Biederbeck, editor of STEP-sister Dynamic Graphics, will be taking over as editor-in-chief of STEP.
