Tar Debuts with Cover by Julian Schnabel
Despite the ongoing global economic rollercoaster ride, Tar Art Media is right on target with the planned October launch of Tar, an art and fashion biannual with a list of contributors that sounds a lot like those you’d find in the pages of Purple (not surprising, as Purple editor-at-large Bill Powers holds the same title on Tar‘s masthead). According to our media-savvy sibling blog FishbowlNY, Tar contributors include Matthew Barney, Juergen Teller, and Terry Richardson. Our beloved Julian Schnabel created the debut issue’s cover (pictured at right), complete with a raised logo in the artist’s distinctive hand. The back cover of the 300-page issue is free of advertising, instead showcasing artist Nate Lowman‘s “Vote Obama” drawings that nod to Warhol‘s 1972 “Vote McGovern” silkscreens. FishbowlNY reports that Milan Fashion Week attendees have already been treated to Tar; the magazine debuts stateside later this month.
