The Splasher Gets Splished at Shepard Fairey Show

Via Gothamist, we learn that the Splasher, the ambiguously anti-street-art yet pro-his-own-graffiti paint spatterer may have been caught. Two guys were stopped at Shepard Fairey‘s show in DUMBO last night while trying to set off a stink bomb. Although the connection between scents and splashes is lost on us, Marc at Wooster Collective explains why this might be the Splasher’s last splash:

For the last few weeks speculation has been circulating amongst the art community here that is was the Splasher who lit off a similar stink bomb at the Faile show a few weeks back in Nolita. Going beyond it just being a practical joke, the guy who lit the stink bomb then called the police informing them that there was a gas leak in the building. Minutes later fire engines arrived and the show was cleared out.

Apparently Le Splash has been targeting both Fairey and Faile’s work out in public as well, which would confirm that the stinky instances are related. Wooster also has posted this photo of a guy they seem to think is in cahoots with the Splasher, if not Mr. Splash himself. What do you think? This guy looks more like a kid begging someone at the grown-up table to allow him to be excused.
